Write an essay which analyzes the visual rhetoric of 1-2 selected films. Your reader may not be familiar with the images/film you have chosen; therefore, you must provide summary, example, and illustration as part of your discussion. In your essay, use Visual Arguments in Film, by Jesus Alcolea-Banegas, to think through your examples. You can use direct quotations if needed, but you are not required to use them for this essay. Simply document appropriately, according to MLA, if you choose to use direct quotations.
Analyze the work by applying criteria based on your reflection about visual rhetoric and your reading and interpretation of Visual Arguments in Film. Analyze the film and images by applying the 5 strategies suggested in the article.
Some questions to consider:
How is the film, and its subjects, represented in visual argument? How do these visual representations serve or not serve the piece?
Examine the applications of the essay to your film: how is each example representative of the article’s claims?
Is there an issue from your blog post that you can include or expand on in the essay?
What is your own argument that you have formed in the process of reading the article and now writing your own essay? Consider that you are “jumping in” to the conversation now with your own essay. Give ample support for your own claims.
Your first draft should be 3-5 pages
