Task 1 – Understand the tour operators industry within the travel and tourism sector
Produce a seminar paper to inform the members of staff the effects of the current and recent trends and developments on the tour operations sector. Give a list of the major tour operators and examples explaining them. Identify separate factors that contribute to the effects of the current and recent trends and developments on the tour operations sector described earlier:

M1. Select/design and apply appropriate method of techniques to evaluate tour sectors of any travel and tourism organization (1.1)

M2. Present and communicate appropriate findings to identify the impact of tour operations within in a travel and tourism context. Give example of how a particular tour operator has been subject to current/ recent trends.
Be able to review brochures and methods of distribution used to sell holidays and Understand strategic and tactical decision making for tour operators
3.1 Carry out an analysis of 4 summer sun/ Winter Brochures from different tour operators and rate them on:
(1) Overall quality and content
(2) Use of images
(3) Style of copy
(4) Ease of use
Make suggestions as to how the shortcomings you identified could be put right. Evaluate the planning decisions taken for the design of a selected brochure (your choice from above). Make reference to your chosen brochure from above.
3.2 assess the suitability of alternatives to a traditional brochure for different types of tour operator. (CD, video, internet, intranet, television; examination of distribution channels eg direct mail, specialist carriers, haulier, consolidated delivery companies, travel agencies, intensive/selective distribution systems) a
3.3 evaluate the suitability of different methods of distribution used to sell a holiday for different types of tour operator(direct sell, agencies, call centres, internet, teletext, telephone)
4.1Evaluate the strategic decisions made by different tour operators . Give any two examples of a case study of tour operators who have taken strategic decisions. Choose two from Specialist Tour Operators, Incoming Tour Operators, Outbound Tour Operators, Independent Tour Operators and Domestic Tour Operators.
4.2 Compare the tactical decisions that could be taken by a selected tour operator of your choice (choose two case studies) in different situations
