Write a critical review of a site specific artwork, Tom RidgebyGary Sczerbaniewicz.
Through critical analysis, critique this site-specific artwork based on your experience. Does the work fulfill the “site-specific” claims? Is the artwork effective in communicating its aims? What and how are the concepts built into piece? Why do you appreciate it? OR:why does it disturb you? How do you respond to it formally? Conceptually? Materially?
While reviewing the artwork, consider what the work might be about and how it was created. Consider how it makes you feel or what it might make you think about. These are all helpful things for writing your review.
A review should also provide a historical background for the current work, (ie: what has led up to them, historically and in terms of the particular artist’s oeuvre and convey some knowledge of related contemporary works by other artists(research the artist online, read former interview reviews and press releases.)Contextualize the works within a consideration of public spaces issues.
Be Sure to include artist’s name, title of individual work discussed and a brief description of the work—form, media, duration, etc.
