“No Room in the INN”

Ministry legitimates the existence of the Church in the world as the presence of God in and for the world. In this sense, ministry precedes and determines the nature and existence of the Church, not the other way around. The Church does not “invent” ministry as an anxious attempt at self-justification. It shares in the ongoing ministry of Christ by its calling to be the presence of Christ in the world. In this case study, which corresponds to Part V of Anderson, The Soul of Ministry (chapters 17-18), you will explore forms of ministry through which Christ has presence in the world and work out a theology of presence which combines servanthood with transcendence. It is theological discernment that detects the ministry of Christ in our midst, bringing radical freedom, faith, and healing.
