Major existing issues in legality of correction programs.

One issue that exists with regard to legality or correctional programs is the difficulty in bringing forward a lawsuit while incarcerated. Due to a large number of frivolous lawsuits by prisoners in the 60’s, the Prison Litigation reform Act (PLRA) was passed to handle complaints from prisoners (Palmer, 2010). According to the act, prisoners must exhaust available prison grievance mechanisms prior to filing suit. This legislation also limits the amount of fees payable to attorneys and suggests an infringement on the Sixth Amendment to the Bill of Rights.
