The research paper should break new ground, adding significantly to a discussion by being creative in how you approach your topic. Add your own unique angle to a debate so that you can demonstrate critical engagement with your analysis.Make sure, though, to analyze the text by way of close readings (i.e., analyze aspects of language; quote the text extensively to support your ideas; examine words, context, literary form, critical terms and performance). Be sure to give a larger sense of the historical and cultural context, while expressing ideas about the writer?s, or each writers?, unique individual perspective.
The research paper must meet the following criteria: 1) a well developed, original, and well-supported argument; 2) effectiveness in scholarly response to critics; 3) strength and variety of sources and the application and analysis of the evidence; 4) flow and design of argument based on a clear organizational framework or scheme that adds coherence and unity to the analysis
