The topic is over Emotional Intelligence. For the Concept/Explanatory Essay, you will write an essay explaining a concept (see Chapter 4: Explaining a Concept on p. 116-171 in our textbook for more information). In Essay 3, it is essential you do the following: 1) define the concept clearly (explain what the concept is and why the reader should care) and 2) provide examples that help the reader understand the concept in its entirety. Pick a concept that piques your interest and that you do not mind studying/researching further. In order to explain your concept, you must use at least one and no more than three sources. These sources may include books or articles written by an expert on your topic. Additionally, you may also use works of fiction (e.g., novels, movies, TV shows) to help illustrate your concept. For instance, you might give an example of a character in a TV series or in a book whom behaves in a way that demonstrates your concept perfectly. (ie. Dexter Morgan, anti-hero of the Showtime series Dexter, seems like the average, occasionally awkward forensics expert when in fact he is a cunning serial killer and self-proclaimed sociopath.) -or- (ie. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone, Draco Malfoy is a foil to Harry Potter, both in appearance, circumstance, and behavior. His slick, blond hair contrasts with Potter s dark, shaggy main etc.)
Your essay should be approximately 500 words in length; it must be typed, double-spaced, in a 12-point font, in the MLA style (see p. 731-737 in our textbook for a sample paper in this style) and saved in Microsoft Word format with a .docx, .doc, or .rtf extension. Your work must also include a Works Cited page that lists the sources used in writing your paper.
