2. Instructions
This 6 – 8 slide power point will build upon what you have learned in the previous modules regarding becoming a nurse, and the conceptual and philosophical bases of nursing. This assignment accounts for 10% of your final grade. Address all components and follow the scoring rubric since this will be used to determine your grade.
This PowerPoint presentation addresses the following components:
1. Definition of Nursing:
a. Discuss reason(s) why you became a nurse.
b. Identify your basis nursing education and rationale for this choice.
c. Describe how you have internalized new knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviors values and ethical standards into your own professional identity.
d. Discuss what nursing means to you.
e. Describe how you see the role of nursing.
2. Philosophy of Nursing (refer to Box 12-8 pp 263 for framework)
a. Purpose: identify your values and beliefs, core of nursing, and focus of nursing
b. Describe your vision for yourself as a nurse.
c. Discuss how you will carry this out with your: patients and patients’ families; your colleagues; your professional organizations.
d. Discuss how you will care for your own health.
e. Discuss your lifelong learning plans.
3. Compare and contrast your definition and philosophy of nursing with that of either your current place of employment or Excelsior College School of Nursing.
a. Identify the institution you chose to compare and contrast your definition and philosophy with.
b. Summarize institutes definition and philosophy
c. Describe similarities and differences between the two.
d. Discuss the impact this knowledge has had on your own values and beliefs.
4. Power Point Presentation: elements of a successful power point presentation.
a. Content is well organized using headings or bulleted lists to group material.
b. Font formats (color, bold italic) have been carefully planned to enhance readability and content.
c. There are no spelling or grammar errors.
d. Presentation is deliverable in 6 – 8 slides.
Compose your work using a word processor (or other software as appropriate) and save it frequently to your computer. When you’re ready to submit your work, click Browse My Computer and find your file. Once you’ve located your file click Open and, if successful, the file name will appear under the Attached files heading. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click Submit and you’re done.
