The movie, Food , Inc. Write a response to a specific ethical dilemma in food and nutrition presented in the film. Remember, ethics deals with the concepts of right and wrong. The field of nutrition is full of problems (dilemmas)that center around right and wrong. The field of nutrition can become very controversial and political. Should the government regulate food? What kind of Food? Why? Who determines what should be included on a food label? Who or what group is paying the regulators or food label decision –makers? Are there conflicts of interest? Is it right or wrong?
The focus should be on Industrialzation of meat raising and processing has increased the incidences of food contamination. The change in animal feed corn based diets and the animal’s living conditions create the need to use drugs and chemicals to prevent vast spread of disease both in animals and humans. Discuss the implications of this change. You may look at the issues of government regulation and oversight of food safety, Kevin’s law, or the consumer’s responsibility in food safety. Are we reaping the consequinces of our demand for bigger, faster, and cheaper?
